About OCWOF

A 501(c)(3) nonprofit protecting dolphins through ethical, science-based conservation.

§ 01Mission

A life beyond captivity

We believe dolphins deserve a life that prioritizes their welfare, natural behaviors and long-term well-being. Through responsible research, conservation planning and collaboration, OCWOF is working toward a future where marine mammals are protected with integrity and respect.

Our work brings together science, advocacy and community engagement to support individual animals and the ecosystems they depend on.

§ 02Founder
Replace outdated models of captivity with ethical sanctuary environments.
Dawn Bishop · Founder

OCWOF began as a personal mission to create a humane alternative for dolphins who can no longer be released into the wild. It has grown into a structured, science-driven initiative built on persistence, research and collaboration.

§ 04Approach

Science-based and ethical

  • Evidence-based research and environmental data
  • Collaboration with marine professionals and conservation organizations
  • Long-term planning focused on sustainability and animal welfare
  • Transparency and responsible nonprofit practices
§ 05Why it matters

Thousands of dolphins still wait

Thousands of dolphins around the world remain in captive environments that do not fully meet their physical and behavioral needs. While some can be rehabilitated and released, others require long-term care.

Seaside sanctuaries offer a humane alternative: a more natural ocean environment with safety, medical care and long-term welfare.

§ 06Looking ahead

An innovative funding idea

To support long-term sanctuary operations, OCWOF is exploring a 3D ocean-themed museum, an immersive experience combining education, conservation storytelling and interactive exhibits.
